Former England captain Mike Atherton feels India is a strong contender to win this year’s T20 World Cup, given the depth and home conditions of the squad. Without all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, India lost the world’s first team in the five-match T20 series on Saturday, 3–2.

Atherton said Sky Sports probably has more power and that is due to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the T20 cricket they play and that they have recently released their three defeated England without bowlers. Atherton, who led England in 54 Tests, said things would not be easy for India.

He said that England are a good team and the West Indies and other teams are also dangerous, but if you look, you say India is a strong contender. Another former England captain, Michael Vaughan, praised India for winning the T20 series and said that the addition of Jadeja and Bumrah would strengthen the team at the T20 World Cup.

Vaughan tweeted, “ India has adapted to the conditions of the series and won a good team. If Jaspreet Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are included in the team under Indian conditions, they are strong contenders to win the T20 World Cup. India defeated England by 36 runs on Saturday and won the five-match T20 series 3–2.
