The Ministry extends deadlines for filing a National Sports Award, Know the New Date

The Sports Ministry has extended the deadline for applications for this year’s National Sports Awards on Friday, allowing the online process to continue until June 28. June 21st is the last date for the nomination and submission of applications. According to Sudarshan Garlapati, Secretary to the Government of India, “The deadline for filing applications is scheduled to be extended from June 21, 2021 to June 28, 2021.”

For the second consecutive year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sports Ministry has invited applications for national sports awards on May 20, seeking self-nominations and online applications for eligible athletes, coaches, universities and other organizations. Prior to 2019, applicants had to make recommendations to apply. However, last year, the condition was lifted as people were unable to move due to the lockdown.

Last year, 74 recipients received awards at an online event. At the moment, the Khel Ratna award is Rs 25 lakh, the Arjuna award recipient is Rs 15 lakh, Dronacharya (Lifetime) Rs 15 lakh. 10 lakh for Dhyan Chand Award recipients. The Khel Ratna Award was jointly awarded to cricketer Rohit Sharma, women’s hockey captain Rani Rampal, wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Paralympian Mariappan Thangaluvu and table tennis player Manika Batra in an unprecedented move last year.
