Demand for compact sport utility vehicles (SUVs) is constantly increasing in the Indian market. Consumers are increasingly interested in this segment, as it is economical with a sporty look with strong performance. Last May, the Kia Sonnet performed well in this category and took first place, leaving cars like Maruti Bresa.
Kia Motor (now known as Kia India) launched its small SUV Kia Sonnet in the market in September last year. This was the company’s second SUV in the Indian market before Celltose was released. Soon after it hit the market, this small SUV has gained a special place among consumers with better connectivity features at a lower price.
If we look at sales figures, the company sold 6,627 units of this SUV last May. This is ahead of division leader Maruti Breza. During this period, only 2,648 units of the Maruti Bresa were sold. The toughest competition for the Kia Sonnet comes from Tata Nexon, which sold a total of 6,439 units.
What’s special about the Kia Sonnet:
The Kia Sonnet has a total of three engine options, two petrol engines and one diesel engine in the Indian market. The 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine offered in it produces 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. The other 1.2-liter petrol engine produces 83 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. In its diesel version, the company offers a 1.5-liter engine that produces 100PS of power and 240Nm of torque.
